Winter Fun at Winterfest in Lake Arrowhead

One of the events at the First Annual Lake Arrowhead Winterfest is an Ice-Carving Contest.

What to Do in Lake Arrowhead

Lake Arrowhead is only 90 minutes away for millions of Southern Californians, but the look and feel of the area is a world apart. Snow and forested mountains combine to create a landscape that is very different from the area immediately below, in the valleys. During the winter months, residents and visitors pry themselves away from the ski slopes to enjoy the first annual Winterfest.

Produced by the Lake Arrowhead Village Administration and the Lake Arrowhead Village Merchant’s Association, Winterfest is a four-day event intended to be a celebration of winter in the magical mountains.

The details:

  • When – February 18th through the 21st
  • Where – Lake Arrowhead Village
  • Why – To have lots of fun and enjoy the Lake Arrowhead area

Featuring live entertainment on the center stage in Lake Arrowhead Village, Winterfest is a great opportunity for locals and visitors alike to experience the unique flavor of Lake Arrowhead. The band Red Not Chili Peppers is confirmed to play on February 19th from 4 to 6!

Several contests allow individual expression and some very friendly competition:

Rev up those chainsaws! An ice carving competition will be held, with contests for both amateur and pro carvers. This is the only National Association of Ice Carving (NICA) sanctioned event in all of California! There is a liability release available for download for daring amateurs. Ice carvers can also receive free nights at the Lake Arrowhead Resort & Spa.

Foodies can enter the “chilly” cook off during the event! Submit your best chili recipe that hits the right notes of spicy, but not three-mile island hot! Prizes will be awarded for the best dishes.

For shutterbugs, submit your best for the photo contest! There are two themes for this year’s WinterFest. There is one contest for photos taken on the Lake Arrowhead Village property and “Winter in the Mountains” themes, where contestants can submit photos within the area’s mountain communities. Photographs submitted for either contest will be judged on several criteria including presentation, originality, storytelling, and color harmony.

Have rugrats in tow? Winterfest offers several fun kids-only activities that will keep the little ones entertained!
